Description

Comfort and tranquillity loom as you approach Calf Close Cottage surrounded by trees and farmland of the beautiful Cumbrian countryside.

As you enter the property, the hallway with plenty of space for your outdoors gear is right in front of you.

To the left of the hallway is a lovely and bright open-plan living area with oak flooring throughout comprised of the fully equipped kitchen with an oven and electric hob cooker, microwave, dishwasher and a wide selection of cooking equipment and utensils to make for an easy and pleasurable cooking experience; the dining area with a pine table and chairs and the sitting area with comfortable leather sofas, coffee table, flat screen TV and DVD player, a stereo system and a Bluetooth speaker, and, of course, the wood burning stove.  Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.  There are high stools at the counter in the kitchen area to make for a more sociable cooking sessions and a soft armchair to sink in to with a good book.  A washer/drier is fitted in the kitchen and a full-size fridge/freezer is located in the hallway.

To the right of the hallway are the double bedroom with the most comfortable super-king bed which can be converted into twins upon request and the ensuite bathroom with a bath and a shower.Towels and bed linen are provided.

The enclosed cottage garden is right in front of you as you enter and is accessible through the back door.

To the left of the cottage is a mown pasture which houses the chicken shed and enclosure.  Beyond it is our vegetable and fruit gardens, the orchard which we planted in 2005 and Boon Hill Wood planted at the turn of this century.  We greet you with a welcome gift of eggs and home made jam and in season, if we have enough for sharing, we offer our home grown fruit or veg.  The guests are welcome to explore the property including the wood, but we ask that you do not enter the vegetable garden without our accompaniment, as we are concerned about rabbits getting in.

We are pet-friendly and welcome one well behaved dog.  We ask that your canine companion is kept off the furniture and is not allowed in to the bedroom.  Please keep your pet on the lead anywhere on the estate apart from the cottage garden and clean up after your dog both in the garden and elsewhere on the property.

Smoking is not allowed inside the cottage.

The market town of Brampton (3 miles away) offers a Co-op, a couple of butchers, a bakery and a selection of pubs, coffee / sandwich shops, takeaways and sit down eateries.

There is a number of lovely country pubs nearby, offering good food and real ale along with the customary choice of tipple.  Our local (1 mile away) is Blackssmith's Arms in Talkin, which serves nice home cooked meals and has 3 – 4 real ales on a regular basis. The Belted Will in Hallbankgate (2 miles away) is another good option for both food and drink.  Hallbankgate Hub located in the village of Hallbankgate opposite The Belted Will is a good place for a cup of coffee and a cake as well as for some basic essentials.  Carlisle is only 10 miles away and affords plenty of choice on culinary and imbibing fronts.
